Tucked away in a predominantly residential area is a little taste of Japan, well worth the effort to get to. We stopped in for lunch and were treated to excellent meals and service. With the dishes having traditional names and our server graciously explained what we were about to order, she made sure we wouldn't be surprised. The variety and presentation was amazing, everything was just right, bring your appetite and you will leave happy!

Great sushi restaurant with nice combo set options that include fresh sashimi and tasty side dishes. I chose the tuna tataki set. My family ordered the black sesame icecream and green tea ice cream with mochi served with both. Really enjoyed the quality of the food and the reasonable prices! Thank you.

Great tasting and affordable place. Servers were very knowledgeable and friendly. You can swap some of the fish types. For example there is only tuna tataki on the menu, but they can do up a salmon tataki, which is what we ordered. The side dishes were all really top notch, but the assorted tempura was our fave. Super crispy and really thin batter.

Second time coming here, it was great. You get quite a bit of food for the price with the lunch sets, and everything is really great. It does get pretty busy as soon as it opens so making a reservation is a good idea.

We visited Kappo without a reservation, but since we arrived early, we were lucky to get a table. Later, we noticed a group of 3 or 4 arrive, but unfortunately, they had to leave because the restaurant was fully booked—it’s clearly a very popular spot! Despite being so busy, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. They made us feel welcome and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the meal. We ordered two set meals: I chose the tonkatsu, and my partner had the chicken cutlet. The tonkatsu was amazing—perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, with juicy, tender pork on the inside. It was served with a flavorful, tangy tonkatsu sauce that paired perfectly with the meat. The shredded cabbage on the side was fresh and crunchy, and the miso soup was warm and comforting, balancing out the richness of the dish. The chicken cutlet was equally delicious. The coating was light and crispy, while the chicken remained moist and flavorful. It had a subtle seasoning that made it taste like something straight out of a home kitchen, full of care and attention to detail. The rice was perfectly cooked and slightly sticky, just how it should be, tying the meal together beautifully. Overall, both dishes gave off a cozy, home-cooked vibe, but if I had to choose, I’d recommend the tonkatsu—it’s a must-try! We’ll definitely come back next time to explore more of their set meals. This place feels like a hidden gem, perfect for anyone craving authentic, heartwarming Japanese food.

Absolutely one of the best Japanese restaurants in Victoria. Recommended by our friend who lives in that area, we visited this little cozy Japanese restaurant last night. Food was delicious , nicely presented and staff were patient and friendly, special thanks to Yumi for her outstanding customer service. We would definitely go again. Highly recommend it. It’s better to make a reservation to avoid waiting during meal times. Parking is a bit difficult during dinner times though.

Delicious food!! Ordered chef’s special and tuna tataki set. Very accommodating to sub based on dietary preferences. Very good service and atmosphere. Highly recommend!

The food was amazing. A varied platter of sensations for my taste buds. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The service was also great. Overall a wonderful restaurant and a little hidden gem. I am happy to have them be a part of our neighbourhood
